Hull KR face their biggest test yet with reigning champions Wigan Warriors travelling to Sewell Group Craven Park for tonight’s Super League Round Seven clash. It is the first time the two sides have met since last year’s Grand Final, while Willie Peters’ Rovers boast the only unbeaten record in the top-flight. The current Super League leaders will be without reigning Man of Steel Mikey Lewis for the thrilling clash, with the 23-year-old suffering a groin injury during the Challenge Cup derby victory at the MKM Stadium .
France international Arthur Mourgue was cup-tied last weekend, having played for Catalans Dragons against Halifax Panthers in the early stages. It saw Jack Broadbent return to full-back after playing on the wing the week prior in the 50-4 win over Huddersfield Giants. The pair have both been named in Peters’ squad for tonight’s fixture, alongside half-back Danny Richardson.
The 28-year-old former St Helens youngster has featured just twice so far this year, impressing with a player of the match performance in the 42-0 victory over Salford Red Devils in February. Mourgue certainly offers versatility. The 25-year-old played in the halves on 18 occasions for Catalans, including once this year against Championship side Halifax.
He could be a potential option to partner Tyrone May, allowing Broadbent to remain at the back. However, Richardson offers a kicking game for Rovers in the halves, which could play a huge part against last year’s Grand Slam champions. In hot form for Rovers across several positions this year, Broadbent is currently giving his head coach one of his biggest selection headaches .
Meanwhile, James Batchelor is back in contention after being named in the extended squad after missing the cup derby win through injury. After his stellar performance last weekend, Jez Litten is another option for Peters to ponder. The interchange replaced Lewis on Saturday and ran the show, from goal-kicking to running threat.
He's having an excellent season. Mourgue is also capable of playing hooker, so could offer something from the bench if Litten is to start. All will be revealed at 6:30pm tonight.
