On Saturday night, boxing legend Mike Tyson stepped back into a professional ring for the first time since May 11, 2005, facing off against former YouTube star turned pro boxer Jake Paul. It was a highly anticipated fight with more than 70,000 fans in attendance, but things didn’t go the way Tyson had hoped. Tyson, 58, entered the matchup with a 50-6 career record, including 44 knockouts.

Meanwhile, Paul, 27, was 10-1 with seven knockouts. Paul controlled the fight from start to finish, and after going the distance, he secured a win by a unanimous decision. In Paul's favor, the judges’ scorecards read 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.

But in a surprising moment, he revealed that he had nearly died during a health scare back in June. This is one of those situations when you lost but still won.

I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time. I almost died in June.

Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.

Tyson may have been on the wrong side of the result on Friday night, but going eight full rounds at this stage of his life deserves recognition, especially considering what he's dealt with recently. As Tyson wrote, overcoming eight blood transfusions is a win. Related: Jake Paul's $1 Million Outfit for Mike Tyson Fight Catches Attention.
