PITTSBURGH -- Broderick Jones is not having the second season that he or anyone else wanted. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers have no other options to play right tackle that are better than him until rookie Troy Fautanu returns late in the season, if he even can return. So, when Mike Tomlin was asked where Jones stands now and if he would be the team’s starting right tackle heading into the future, Tomlin had no time for it.

Tomlin ripped Jones’s criticisms. Jones has received plenty of criticism in the media throughout the first ten weeks of the NFL season, even coming off his best game of the year against the Washington Commanders. "I am not worried about that.

You guys can write all you want. Broderick Jones is playing right tackle for us. He’s going to continue to get better.

He’s a top-quality player in terms of his talent. He’s a young guy. He’s experiencing some on-the-job training.

He and I will not blink. Keep writing," Tomlin said about Jones. The team’s 2023 first-round pick out of Georga, Jones has struggled to play with consistency throughout the season.

He has dealt with elbow and wrist injuries at different points, and those have not helped his cause as he tries to play an unnatural position. General manager Omar Khan made it clear that Jones was drafted to be a left tackle, but circumstances, such as Fautanu’s injury, are forcing him to move off the plan for now. As talented as a Top-15 pick can be, the Steelers will stick with Jones and hope he can turn the corner down the stretch.
