Kraemer’s squad celebrated homecoming with a dominant 42-0 win over Mamou at Acadiana, the Lions’ temporary home for the 2024 season while Lafayette High builds a brand new campus.

The Lions' offense got rolling early with a Kevon’te Landry 10-yard touchdown scamper just four minutes into the game to jump out to an early 7-0 advantage. On the next LHS possession, John Carney had back-to-back screen passes to Jameion and Landry to put the ball inside the 10 before stalling out and leading to a 10-0 lead after a 24-yard field goal from Dylan Doiron. “Glad to see our skill guys stepping up and making big plays in the passing game tonight,” Kraemer said postgame.

The Lions’ offense featured four different quarterbacks tonight as Carney, Landry, Richmond Saunier, and Omar Clement all took snaps under center. “Being versatile is a good thing and we have the ability to move guys around in different spots.” Later in the first half, Lafayette would add a pair of touchdowns from Carney as he first found Richard Fontenot for a 35-yard touchdown before he connected with Kamorie Boyd for a 60-yard strike to make it 24-0 halfway through the second quarter.

Defensively, Lafayette High pitched their first shutout of the season behind the constant pressure of the Green Demon offense, a pair of turnovers, and several sacks. Early in the fourth, Carney had his third touchdown pass of the night, finding Parker Zerangue for a 15-yard touchdown that made it 42-0 and set the clock in motion for the remainder of the game with the rules that the LHSAA implemented in 2023 to speed up lopsided results. “Really proud of our defense tonight,” Kraemer continued.

“Shutting out an opponent is huge for us and I couldn’t be more proud of the unit. The switch to a 3-4 has been really nice for us.” Winning on Homecoming is always an added bonus as the Lions improve to 3-0, but the long list of powerhouses in District 3-5A looms for the Mighty Lions.

However, Kraemer’s players and staff will enjoy this one. “Big win on homecoming for our team tonight,” he said after scoring the most points in a game this season. “Proud of our team and staff.

We’ll enjoy it tonight, but we have to get back to work as Southside will be a tough district opener next week. We’re really looking forward to it.”.
