Microsoft is reportedly working on a redesigned Windows 11 Start menu that can be customised more easily. A report by The Verge has revealed that the new Start menu has a bigger layout and is the biggest update in design since Windows 11 was launched around three years ago. Unlike the current version of the Start menu on Windows 11 that just shows pinned and recommended apps, the new menu will display all the apps on the main screen without users needing to move to another screen.

The apps will show up to two rows by default but this can be expanded to show more. Users can also arrange these apps by categories, and in a vertical or horizontal grid. Additionally, they can disable the “Recommended” section which keeps suggesting files and apps.

Considering Microsoft is testing the new Start menu currently, it could be rolled out to general users during the coming weeks or months. Until then, users can experiment with it on the latest Windows 11 Insider build. The beta build for Windows 11 that was released to just Windows Insider users earlier this month also shows ‘taskbar icon scaling’ which can make the icons smaller to gain extra space.
