Michigan State’s latest transfer addition is on the defensive end. Texas State cornerback Joshua Eaton announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media on Monday night. Eaton began his college career with three seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Texas State.

He posted career highs with 27 tackles, a sack and five pass break-ups this season, his second with the Bobcats. The addition of Eaton came after Michigan State picked up its first offseason transfers in wide receivers Omari Kelly (Middle Tennessee) and Chrishon McCray (Kent State) and offensive lineman Luka Vincic (Oregon State). Eaton, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, is a former four-star prospect from Texas who signed with Oklahoma’s 2020 recruiting class.

He played a limited role in three seasons with the Sooners before transferring to Texas State last year. Michigan State’s secondary was decimated by injuries this season amid a 5-7 finish. Charles Brantley, who had resurgent season as the team’s top cornerback, suffered a season-ending injury in November and entered the portal.

Arizona State transfer Ed Woods provided a reliable presence with youth rotating into the lineup. The portal officially opened on Monday and closes on Dec. 28.

Since the Spartans finished 5-7, 13 players from the roster have entered the poral with receiver Jaron Glover (Mississippi State), defensive end Ken Talley (Arkansas) and offensive lineman Dallas Fincher (San Diego State) already announcing their next stop..
