Michelle Trachtenberg, Jim Abrahams, Alain Delon & Tony Roberts Among Those Excluded From Oscars In Memoriam Segment

While Gene Hackman and Quincy Jones received stand-alone memorial tributes during Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast, but several other notables did not appear in the show’s annual “ in memoriam ” segment. Michelle Trachtenberg , who died suddenly last week at age 39, was one prominent name not included, to the dismay of many social media users. While perhaps best-known for work on TV series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer , she also appeared in a number of films, including Harriet the Spy , EuroTrip and Ice Princess .

Others excluded from the montage included Airplane! co-director Jim Abrahams and collaborator with Jerry and David Zucker, as well as Alain Delon. A giant of 20th century French cinema, Delon gained fame as an actor but also had notable accomplishments as a singer, producer, businessman and screenwriter. Unlike past Oscar shows, whose in memoriam tributes featured prominent singers onstage, this year’s show featured a chorus singing Mozart’s “Lacrimosa.” In a circular frame at the center of the screen, still images and footage of the deceased played, with that static shot holding for the duration of the four-and-a-half-minute segment, which was capped by Hackman..
