In a landmark event for motorsport enthusiasts and collectors alike, RM Sotheby’s has announced the auction of one of Michael Schumacher’s legendary Formula 1 cars—the Ferrari F2001 chassis 211—at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. Regarded as one of the most coveted Grand Prix Ferraris, chassis 211 played a pivotal role in Schumacher’s dominance during the 2001 season. It was behind the wheel of this very car that the German racing icon secured his fourth Formula 1 World Championship, a milestone in his record-breaking career.

This Ferrari holds a special place in Monte Carlo’s racing history. On May 27, 2001, Schumacher powered chassis 211 to victory on the iconic street circuit, etching his name into Monaco’s long list of champions. The car remained in competition throughout the season, ultimately sealing Ferrari’s back-to-back championship double at the Hungarian Grand Prix just weeks later.

Now, nearly a quarter of a century after its momentous triumph, chassis 211 is set to return to the streets of Monaco—not to race, but to be auctioned at one of motorsport’s most glamorous events. Bidding will commence at 15:15 local time on Saturday, May 24, moments before qualifying for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. Adding to the occasion, Schumacher’s Ferrari will be displayed in Formula 1’s exclusive Paddock Club throughout the race weekend, offering privileged guests a rare opportunity to see a true piece of racing history up close.

This marks the first time an F1 car has ever been auctioned at the Monaco Grand Prix, further cementing its significance. “Victory on the streets of Monte Carlo alone makes this an extraordinary Ferrari,” said Augustin Sabatié-Garat, Director of Sales at RM Sotheby’s. “But to have also secured the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in the same season takes it to another level.

To bring chassis 211 back to Monaco for this historic sale is an immense privilege.” A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Keep Fighting Foundation, an organisation dedicated to continuing Schumacher’s charitable legacy..
