An inquest into the death of diet and fitness legend Dr Michael Mosley will be heard behind closed doors, it has been confirmed. The broadcaster, author and podcast host was on holiday in Greece when he went for a walk in searing temperatures. When he failed to return a four-day search for the missing doctor was carried out before his body was found four days later.

Authorities in Greece at the time said his death was as a result of natural causes. Speaking after the discovery of Dr Mosley's body, Greek police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou reported no evidence of injury on his body to suggest an alternative cause of death. However the Buckinghamshire coroner in the UK is set to hold a full inquest into the death.

This was set for January 16 however following a request from Dr Mosley's family this will now be heard "on the papers". It is set to be dealt with at some point next week when the coroner can find time in their schedule to carry it out. However this means it will be a closed hearing as rather than calling family members to give evidence the coroner will draw their conclusions on what happened by examining the circumstances through written submissions.

These hearings are allowed when the coroner is satisfied about the medical cause of death and the surrounding circumstances. A spokesman for the coroner's office confirmed the move. They said: "We have delayed the formal Inquest date in order to accommodate a request from the family to conclude the Inquest on the papers.

" Dr. Mosley, widely recognised for his dietary and weight loss expertise, became a household name as a result of his TV shows, podcasts, and bestselling books on diet plans. His plans included The Fast 800, 5:2, The Way of Life, and The Fast 800 Keto.

He was enjoying a break in Greece and had spent the day at Agios Nikolaos beach on the island of Symi island with his wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, and friends on June 5, when he went for a walk. When he failed to return a major land and sea search was carried out by rescue teams and local volunteers.

It was not until four days later that his body was discovered in a rugged area not far from where they stayed in Agia Marina. His wife later confirmed her husband's body had been discovered telling people he appeared to have attempted an "incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn't be easily seen" by those searching for him. Greek experts said that it appeared that Dr Mosley had died at about 4pm, just two and a half hours after leaving the beach.

It was said at the time that temperatures were nearly 40C. Buckinghamshire Coroner's Court initially announced that an inquest into the death would be held on November 14 at 2pm. This was then rescheduled for January 16 at 12.

40pm only to now be brought forward and held as an "on papers" hearing. A notice on the website currently says the hearing will be this week however it has been confirmed it will now be next week. Under a heading of List of inquests to be completed in writing it simply says: "Michael Hugh Mosley.
