July 25, 1950 - April 3, 2025 Michael James Green of Bettendorf, IA passed away on April 3rd in Bettendorf, IA. Michael was born on July 25th, 1950 in Silvis,IL to George Green and Winifred Heath. He attended United Township HS, received a Bachelors in Music Education at Augustana and his Masters in Arts at the University of Iowa.
Michael married Diana Lynn Davis, a fellow music instructor, on June 14th, 1975 in Davenport, IA. They had 2 children, Geoffrey Michael and Elizabeth Ann. Diana passed away on April 7th, 2002.
Music and Education were his life's passion. He knew he wanted to be a Band Director in the 5th grade when he started playing the tenor sax. In high school he played bass in "The Tempters Five", playing dances and shows.
He taught Band, Marching Band and Music Theory at four different schools, mostly in the Bettendorf school system. He was an active member in the American School Band Directors Association and served as President in 2005. After retiring in 2007 he was an Adjunct Teacher of 5th through 8th grade band at Trinity Lutheran School and continued to teach private lessons, judge music contests and mentor new music teachers through the Iowa Bandmasters Association .
Mike loved rooting for the Chicago Bears (or against the Packers) with his group of friends from high school, "The Zeke Benura All Stars". Sunday football games were a weekly tradition with Mike(Grabber), Hull, Nard and Beder debating play calls and coaching decisions. He enjoyed traveling to Gutenburg with his partner Connie Tipsword to see the many goats, cats, dogs and various animals at her son and daughter-in-law's home and barn.
Michael is survived by his children; Geoffrey Green, Elizabeth Shanahan; son-in-law Ryan Shanahan; partner Connie Tipsword; sister Pamela Green; sister-in-law Charlotte (Breitenbach) Green; brothers-in-law Derek (Heike) Davis and Don Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife Diana; parents George and Winifred Green, brother Paul Green, parents-in-law Dorothea and Donald Davis. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9th from 4 PM to 7 PM at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Rd.
