FOXBOROUGH — It was a tough round all around for Berkshire County golfers at the MIAA Division III State Championship Tournament on Monday. A full Lenox team along traveled along with Lee's Joey Abderhalden to Foxborough Country Club after qualifying second as a team and second individually, respectively, last week at Wahconah Country Club in the Western Massachusetts Tournament. Abderhalden had the best day of the bunch, shooting a 12-over 84 to finish tied for 11th place.
Aberhalden had a 10:30 a.m. tee time on the 16th hole, and was off his game a bit early.
He came off the 18th green at 4-over par. Both Joey Abderhalden of Lee and the whole golf squad from Lenox High are moving on to next week's MIAA State Championships. A birdie on the 352-yard par-4 first hole steadied things a bit, but he wound up with double bogeys on Holes 2, 4 and 8.
The Lee junior did get better as the day went on, clocking a second birdie on the 490-yard par-5 ninth hole. He made six pars on the day, including a closing stretch of five straight from Hole 11 to 15. For Lenox, Oliver Kirby led the way with a 91 that included eight pars and a birdie on the 493-yard par-5 fourth hole.
Brady DiGrigoli shot a 92 with six pars, while Michael Methe birdied the 302-yard par-4 seventh hole to finish with a 100. Hunter Shepardson shot a 105, Mia Freeman a 106 and Noah Pinsonneault a 112.f Ayer-Shirley won the D-III title with a 43-over par.
Monomoy was second at plus-51. Western Mass. champion Monty Tech was ninth at plus-75, and Lenox was 11th at plus-100.
