Local restaurant chain Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill is celebrating its 35th anniversary with several specials the week of Nov. 25. Jesus Ruiz founded Mi Pueblo in 1989.
Though the company is now headquartered in Clemmons, its first restaurant was on Oakwood Drive in Winston-Salem in 1989. It now has a total of 10 restaurants: two each in Winston-Salem, High Point and Charlotte, and one each in Clemmons, Statesville, High King and Concord/Kannapolis. To commemorate its anniversary, Mi Pueblo will offer 20-ounce lime-flavored margaritas on the rocks for $3.
50 each from Nov. 25 through Dec. 1 (except for Nov.
28, because the restaurant will be closed for Thanksgiving). Other specials, offered only Nov. 25, will be half-off prices on all appetizers, ACP (arroz con pollo) entrees and "make your own" combos.

“Mi Pueblo represents the story of my family, which was deeply rooted in Jalisco, Mexico, and eventually journeyed first to Atlanta, then Winston-Salem to create the American dream of a thriving restaurant business that has become a cornerstone of our local community,” said Jesus' son Diego, now the company's managing director. “Our opening day in 1989 was so successful with huge lines outside the restaurant that my family had to close the following two days to have time to return to Atlanta to bring more cooks back to Winston-Salem. “The entire Mi Pueblo family loves North Carolina, and we are incredibly proud to have been in business for 35 years.
I thank our dedicated employees, and I hope the public will join us on Mi Pueblo Day on November 25 and the days following to celebrate our 35th anniversary with us.” For more information, visit mipueblomexgrill.com .
