Mexico bar shooting: 6 killed, 10 others injured after gunmen opened fire in Tabasco province

This incident follows a similar shooting in Queretaro two weeks prior and highlights the rising violence in Tabasco, where homicides have significantly increased this year.

Public Safety Secretary Omar García Harfuch said that the shooting happened in Villahermosa and that the authorities are working with local officials to solve the crime. "Regarding the attack that occurred early Sunday morning in a bar in Villahermosa, Tabasco, the Federal Security Cabinet is in coordination with the security and law enforcement authorities of the state to support the clarification of this act of violence," Harfuch said in a post on X.

He confirmed that an investigation was in progress, as reported by the AFP News agency. At the establishment known as "DBar", authorities discovered five individuals deceased at the location, whilst another person succumbed to injuries after being transported to hospital.



The deputy prosecutor noted that five of the injured individuals had been identified. This violent episode occurred a fortnight after a comparable incident in Queretaro, situated in central Mexico, an area previously untouched by organised crime-related violence. The Queretaro incident resulted in 10 fatalities and seven injuries.

Omar Garcia Harfuch, Federal Public Security Secretary, announced on Sunday that President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration was collaborating with local authorities to investigate the Tabasco incident. Tabasco, known for its oil production facilities, has experienced escalating violence recently. Official data reveals 715 homicides occurred in Tabasco between January and October this year, a significant increase from 253 recorded throughout 2023.
