Mexican government demands investigation of deadly San Diego police shooting

The Mexican government is calling for a complete investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by San Diego police officers on Friday.

(FOX 5/KUSI) — The Mexican government is calling for a complete investigation into the shooting death of a man by San Diego police officers on Friday. A news release issued by the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs on Monday states that it is demanding "an exhaustive investigation" of the fatal shooting in a south central San Diego neighborhood. "The relevant authorities have been urged to seek justice in this case and uphold the human rights of our fellow citizens in the United States," reads part of the statement.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, officials were flagged down by a person reporting a man who may have had a firearm near 31st and L Streets shortly after 10 a.m. Woman found in Poway storm drain declared dead at hospitalOfficers eventually found a vehicle outside of a church with a man and woman inside.



The woman exited the vehicle and officials attempted to negotiate with the man over the next hour before he allegedly pointed a firearm at several officers and a sergeant, several of whom fired their weapons at the man, killing him, the sheriff's office said. The man reportedly did not fire his weapon during the shooting and no officers were hurt, the sheriff's office said, adding that officials found a BB gun that resembled a revolver inside of the vehicle. According to the Mexican government, the man's family has been put in contact with civil attorneys and is receiving information and assistance to transport the man's remains to Mexico.
