COURTS Stepfather, mother indicted for girl's death A state judge indicted a man and a woman for the death of a 3-year-old girl. The Baja California State Attorney General's Office said the judge indicted Luis Fernando and Vanesa, the victim's stepfather and mother, respectively. According to the agency, the judge decided to keep the suspects behind bars and gave prosecutors six months to close the investigation.
The agency said on December 6 a report was made regarding the admittance of a three-year-old girl at a private clinic in the unincorporated area of Gonzalez Ortega. The girl's mother told medical staff the minor had difficulties breathing. The pediatrician reported the minor had symptoms of the so-called Child Maltreatment Syndrome.
The girl was transported to the General Hospital where she died on December 10. The agency said the suspects were charged with counts of attempted femicide and domestic violence. According to media outlet reports, the minor had injuries all over her body.
PUBLIC SAFETY Female victim of false imprisonment released A 22-year-old female victim of a false imprisonment case was released by the police. The Mexicali Police Department said Saturday the victim was kidnapped on Friday evening in the Colonia Carranza area. A 38-year-old individual reported the case at 11:13 p.
m. on December 13. The reporting party told the police a man called to report his friend was kidnapped.
The victim had just left her home in a gray Nissan Altima for Christmas shopping. The suspect demanded a payment of 10,000 pesos or about $500 to release the victim. Police agents found the woman's vehicle in the Colonia 18 De Marzo area.
The driver attempted to flee and was chased by the police. The suspect crashed into a fence and attempted to flee on foot. The victim was found in the passenger's seat.
The victim told the police the suspect kept her against her will for about an hour and a half. The victim also said the suspect touched her inappropriately while threatening to kill her by brandishing a firearm. The police found an imitation gun in the vehicle.
The suspect was identified by the police as Ramon, 27, of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Eastern Police Substation where he caused injuries to his neck. LAW ENFORCEMENT Man arrested for keeping ex-girlfriend's against her will A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly keeping his ex-girlfriend against the victim's will for three days.
The Mexicali Police Department said the suspect was identified as Edgar Eduardo, 28. The victim called the police at 3:25 p.m.

The 24-year-old victim told the police she took advantage the suspect was distracted to flee from the scene. The victim told the police she paid a visit to the suspect to reclaim a series of inappropriate behavior with the couple's daughter.
According to the report, the suspect presumably took pictures of the girl's parts. The suspect allegedly got angry and hit the victim in the had to keep her against her will for three days. ASSEMBLY Lawmaker introduces bill to prevent discrimination against immigrants A state lawmaker recently introduced a Constitutional reform that seeks to protect immigrants from being discriminated.
The bill was introduced by Assemblywoman Alejandrina Corral, with the conservative National Action Party. The legislator said Mexico has signed several international treaties related to human rights, which are set at the constitutional level. Corral said immigrants are vulnerable to human rights violations from public agencies and employees, as well as victims of criminal gangs.
