Meta is enhancing its safety measures for young users by introducing additional restrictions to Instagram Teen Accounts and expanding these features to Facebook and Messenger.Teen Accounts were launched last year on Instagram, providing built-in protections to safeguard younger users and ensure age-appropriate experiences. These accounts automatically set restrictions, such as limiting who can contact teens, the content they see, and the amount of time spent on the app.
Teens under 16 need parental permission to adjust these settings. Since its introduction, 97% of teens aged 13-15 have retained the default restrictions, showcasing its effectiveness. Now, Meta is rolling out new safety features on Instagram.
Teens under 16 will require parental approval to go live or disable features that blur suspected nudity in direct messages. These updates aim to address parents’ concerns about inappropriate interactions and ensure safer online experiences for teens.Building on this success, Meta is bringing Teen Accounts to Facebook and Messenger.
This expansion will offer similar protections, including limitations on inappropriate content and unwanted contact, alongside features to help teens manage their time on the platforms. The feature will be initially available in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Meta plans to introduce this across more regions soon.
With over 54 million active Teen Accounts globally, Meta is taking significant steps to create a safer digital environment for teens. The post Meta makes Facebook and Messenger safer for teens appeared first on Technobaboy..
