The Metropolitan Opera had a surprise jump-in during its performance of “Die Frau ohne Schatten” on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024. Soprano Rebecca Nash came in during the performance, taking on the role of Barak’s wife for an indisposed Lise Lindstrom.

Nash previously performed at the Met back on April 12, 2022, making her house debut in “Elektra.” Almost a year later, she appeared in “Lohengrin” as Ortrud on March 10, 2023. The Met Opera’s production of the Strauss opera is one of the most lauded of the 2024-25 season.

Of the production, this writer stated in his review that “this ‘Frau’ is in the running for the best opera that the Met will present in the entirety of 2024 and then 2024-25.” There are two more performances of the opera on Dec. 14 and 19, 2024.
