Next week, temperatures are set to rocket into the mid-twenties for large areas of the UK, with potential highs of 27C predicted next week. In particular, five areas of the country, London, Berkshire, Hampshire, and possibly Kent and East Anglia, will see the hottest of the conditions, according to the Met Office maps. .
From Tuesday through to Friday, there will be temperatures in the twenties for millions of Brits. Unsurprisingly, the south-east will see the warmest weather across the week. However, Wales and the north-west of England could see temperatures north of 23C too.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will remain cooler, in the mid-teens. Although the weather will be warm, it won't quite be heatwave hot. That's because a heatwave requires three or more consecutive days of abnormally hot weather.
David Oliver, Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, said temperatures could soar as high as 27C. He said: “Despite media speculation, next week’s conditions are likely to fall just outside of official Met Office heatwave thresholds. "However, this shouldn’t lead to any disappointment as many can anticipate a very fine spell of weather with temperatures reaching 27C during the middle of the week.
” Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge said: “This would always have been a naturally warm spell. However, with the footprint of climate change, you can expect it to add a degree or so to the values that we would have expected. “So, it’s likely that the temperatures for this event will be slightly higher.
[But] at the moment, it looks as though we’re probably not going to see heatwave conditions met.” Meanwhile, runners embarking on the London Marathon on Sunday will need to stay hydrated as the mercury is expected to reach 22C. The warm forecast has led to organisers warning runners against wearing fancy dress, and advising people slow their pace on raceday.
Prof Sanjay Sharma, the event's medical director, said: "In the conditions forecast for Sunday, you should slow your planned pace. If you were planning to run in fancy dress, please think carefully whether that is still appropriate in the conditions." Often cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle at times, mainly in the west.
Elsewhere some sunnier breaks developing allowing for the odd shower to break out. A much drier and brighter day across Northern Ireland. Feeling warm in the sunshine.
Any patchy rain and drizzle soon easing to leave clear spells across England and Wales with some fog patches. Turning breezier in the northwest with outbreaks of rain. Heavy and persistent rain continuing across northwestern parts.
Elsewhere, any mist and fog lifting to leave a dry day with plenty of sunny spells. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Cloudy with outbreaks of rain in the northwest on Monday, otherwise dry with sunny spells as high pressure builds.
Temperatures climbing, feeling very warm by day across England and Wales..
