ON this historic day, March 23, 2025, we commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Pakistan Resolution of 1940, a defining moment in our nation's journey toward independence. It is a day of reflection, honoring the resilience, sacrifices and unwavering commitment of those who fought for an independent nation. As we mark this occasion, I extend my heartfelt felicitations to all Pakistanis, especially those residing in the Philippines. The strong and enduring friendship between Pakistan and the Philippines continues to grow, built on mutual respect, cooperation and vibrant people-to-people ties. I also deeply appreciate the contributions of the Pak-Phil Friendship Association, whose members have consistently played a vital role in fostering goodwill, cultural exchange and community support. Their efforts in strengthening bilateral relationships and assisting Pakistanis in distress have been invaluable. Our two nations continue to enhance economic cooperation, especially with the opening of a Commercial Wing in the Philippines last July. I'm pleased to announce that our trade ties witnessed a quantum growth of 94 percent in 2024 with our total trade figure reaching $352.88 million, compared to $286.61 million in 2023. Pakistan's exports to the Philippines were recorded at US $330.4 million as compared to imports from the Philippines, which stood at US $22.48 million in 2024.Besides rice, Pakistan is the third largest supplier of citrus to the Philippines. With the ratification of the Bilateral Agreement on Defense Cooperation last year, and increasing economic engagement, we are committed to expanding trade and investment opportunities for mutual prosperity.Recognizing the strong family bonds between Pakistanis and Filipinos, we welcome approval of five-year-long term residency permits for Pakistanis married to Filipino spouses by the government of Philippines. Strengthening legal and social frameworks for our diaspora will further deepen our people-to-people connections and solidify our historic friendship. This year also marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Philippines, a testament to our enduring partnership. We look forward to commemorating this milestone with initiatives that celebrate our shared history and future aspirations.Let us reaffirm our dedication to democracy, peace and development both at home and abroad. May Pakistan continue to prosper, and may the bond between our two nations grow ever stronger.Pakistan Zindabad! Long live Pakistan-Philippine friendship!
