Netflix's upcoming drama, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story , is set to explore the chilling crime committed by the Menendez brothers - the murder of their wealthy parents. Entertainment tycoon Jose Menendez and his wife Mary Louise Andersen were brutally murdered in their Beverly Hills mansion on August 20, 1989. In a frantic call to 911, a distraught Lyle Menendez cried out "someone shot my parents" leading police to the scene of a gruesome double homicide.

Initially, the brothers weren't considered suspects, but their odd behavior and lavish spending following their parents' death raised suspicions, leading many to believe that the Menendez brothers could be responsible. Their arrest in 1990 led to a high-profile murder trial in 1993 and a subsequent retrial in 1995. In the Netflix adaptation, Oscar winner Javier Bardem will portray Jose; Chloe Sevigny from American Horror Story will play Kitty; newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch have been cast as Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez, respectively, while Hollywood comedian Nathan Lane will take on the role of investigative journalist Dominick Dunne.

Lyle, aged 56, and his younger sibling Erik, 53, are currently serving their prison terms at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility at Mule Creek State Prison in San Diego, California . Interestingly, both brothers have found love while behind bars.

Lyle married model Anna Eriksson on July 2, 1996, in a ceremony presided over by a judge and attended by his lawyer and aunt. However, their union ended in divorce on April 1, 2001, after Eriksson discovered Lyle's alleged unfaithfulness. In November 2003, Lyle walked down the aisle again, this time with Rebecca Sneed, a former magazine editor who became a defense attorney.

The couple had been acquainted for a decade before deciding to tie the knot. DON'T MISS..

. Meanwhile, Erik married his ex-pen pal Tammi Ruth Saccoman on June 12, 1999, at Folsom State Prison, California . Their unconventional wedding featured a Twinkie as a cake, and Tammi later characterized their relationship as something she had always fantasized about.

Despite Erik's life sentence, Tammi has remained steadfast, even self-publishing a book about their shared experiences. The couple has a daughter, and Tammi mentioned that they visit Erik every weekend, with her daughter fondly referring to him as her "Earth Dad." The brothers were handed life sentences without the chance of parole, but they persist in contesting their convictions.

In May 2023, their lawyers argued that new evidence against their father indicates that the convictions and life sentences should be overturned. Nathan Lane brings to life the character of Dominick Dunne in the Netflix series, a celebrated investigative journalist who covered the trial for Vanity Fair and was known for his reporting on high-profile cases including O. J.

Simpson, Claus von Bulow, Michael Skakel, and William Kennedy Smith. Dunne's career spanned hosting crime TV shows and writing books, with his Hollywood journey captured in "Dominick Dunne: After the Party." Before succumbing to bladder cancer at his Manhattan home on August 26, 2009, Dunne had become an iconic figure in crime journalism.
