The MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes has launched a petition to tackle the "simply unacceptable" noise level on the A180 . On Thursday, Melanie Onn launched her petition - titled 'Fix the A180' - as part of her campaign to improve the noise situation and driving experience on the A180. It comes after she first raised the issue in an adjournment debate in Parliament last September, where she stated how economic growth and investment in northern Lincolnshire is being "held back" due to poor road and rail connectivity.
According to recent assessments carried out by National Highways, noise levels when driving on the A180 can reach as high as 82 decibels. Guidance by the RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) states that repeated exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels can cause hearing damage, and that any noise above 80 decibels should be investigated by employers for potential hearing risks. “If this level of noise were happening inside a workplace, it would rightly trigger an investigation for hearing risks. Local people shouldn’t have to tolerate what amounts to industrial-level noise from a public road. “This petition is about making sure our community is finally heard – literally and figuratively – and that National Highways take this seriously.

They said: "We’re repairing and maintaining the concrete road surface on the A180 between its junctions with the A15 (Barnetby) and A160 (Brocklesby). Our aim is to extend the life expectancy of the A180 by around five years.
" The road was closed overnight for a number of days in March to allow some of the resurfacing works to take place. You can view the petition by clicking here . The launch video can be viewed here .
