While only a handful of them become administrative officers. Cracking a public exam especially a competitive exam like UPSC, aspirants sit and prepare day and night. It is a dream of many to become an IPS, IFS, or an IAS.
But there’s a man who took his UPSC exam and became a part of the film fraternity. However, he didn’t see instant success there too. Let’s know more about him.
Today we are talking about Kanwaljit Singh Walia who once was a big TV star and in recent years appeared in small films, he also starred in pivotal roles in big-budget films and web series. For the unversed, Kanwaljit Singh Walia comes from a Sikh family in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Soon after completing his academics, Kanwaljit joined Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
After giving a try in films, his first two films ‘Hum Rahe Na Hum’ and ‘Shaq’ didn’t show any success due to which he turned to the television industry. Kanwaljit Singh is one of the handsome actors, with an impressive height of over six feet he was mostly compared with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Kanwaljit made his debut in Hindi film with the film, Shankar Hussain (1977) and worked in many hit films like Satte Pe Satta, Matches, Dil Mange More, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Raazi.
However, his stardom grew immensely on television. Some of his hit TV shows include Aahat, Family No. 1, Wajood, Saans, Buniyaad, and Abhimaan.
You’ll be surprised to know that Kanwaljit never wanted to become an actor since he dreamt of working in the Air Force. He even started preparing for the exams and even passed the UPSC NDA exam. Unfortunately, he failed Dehradun’s medical exam due to hearing loss in his right ear.
Kanwaljit never gave up he tried his luck in the Merchant Navy too, but saw his failure. One fine day he came across the admission form for FTII, and he submitted the form, despite not wanting to become an actor, he went to Delhi for an audition and got picked by the the FTIII. Kanwaljit Singh is married to Anuradha Patel and they are parents of two sons, Siddharth Singh and Aditya Singh.
Many may not know that Anuradha is an actress who made her debut in Hindi cinema with the film Love in Goa. She appeared in many films as Rekha’s friend. Anuradha is the daughter of Virendra Patel and Bharti Jaffrey.
