There’s a new horse roaming with the herd in the Outer Banks. More specifically, a new foal. And they’re lucky to have her.
The Corolla Wild Horse Fund announced over social media the arrival of a new foal that was born into the host of around 100 wild Spanish Mustangs on St. Patrick’s Day. Staff with the fund have elected to call the foal “Finola.
” “We figured she needed a good Irish name,” the post reads. Finola’s name, which has connections to Irish mythology, translates about to “fair shouldered” in English. The fund has asked the public to respect the privacy and space of the wild horses living freely on the northernmost Currituck Outer Banks.
Disrespecting that space, the fund said, can cause undue stress for both the foal and its mother and all other horses in the harem. Giving the horses some space, the group says, is critical to the horses’ long-term wellness and aligns with the fund’s mission of protecting and conserving the animals.
