If there is one generation that takes pride in its identity, it’s Gen Z or Zoomers. Ashwin Ramaswami, a 25-year-old Democrat running for a Georgia State Senate seat, proudly wears the badge of being Gen Z. Ramaswami is the first Gen Z Indian-American to get involved in United States politics.
“I’m the son of immigrants, I’m a computer scientist, and I’m Gen Z. I hold a B.S.
in Computer Science from Stanford University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and decided to work in public service: cybersecurity and election security in the federal government,” he states on his official website, Ashwin for Georgia.
Born and raised in Johns Creek, Georgia, Ramaswami’s parents emigrated to the USA in the 1990s. A proud Hindu, although Ashwin was born in the USA, he has always been interested in Indian culture and philosophy. In an earlier interview, he spoke about his parents being from Tamil Nadu and growing up with both Indian and American cultures.
Unlike most, Ramaswami’s social media is filled with work that highlights his emerging career in US politics. However, he always ensures that he sends well-wishes to his Hindu and Indian friends and family during festivals. In one post, he wishes “Happy Tamil New Year and Happy Vishu!” In another, he shared a photo of himself dressed in Indian ethnic wear.
He captioned it, “Had a wonderful week of celebrations for the nine-day Hindu festival of Navaratri! The final day, Vijayadashami or Dussehra, represents the victory of truth over evil. Let the power of Devi, the divine feminine, guide us in all our endeavours.” On his website, he also mentioned that "he teaches classes for high schoolers about Hindu philosophy and culture.
At Georgetown, he helped raise $100K to establish an endowment for Dharmic programs (for students from Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and other traditions)." Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from People, Lifestyle and around the world..
