Bollywood has produced many talented actors who have gained not only national recognition but also international recognition. The 90s was a pivotal decade for Bollywood, laying the groundwork for the industry's future growth and evolution. This particular actor became successful at the start of his career and gets recognition for his performance.
However, despite his early success, his career saw a major downfall in the 1990s. The actor we are talking about is Ronit Roy, who is one of the highest paid television actors in India. He has earned numerous accolades including a Filmfare Award, five ITA Awards, and six Indian Telly Awards.
Ronit Bose Roy was born on 11 October 1965 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The actor made debut with the film Jaan Tere Naam in 1992 and gained recognition for his performance. The film became a commercial success.
Despite his early success, his career saw a major downfall, with films like Army and Kisna, the actor struggled to find mainstream success in Indian cinema. Following that, he shifted to television with the daily soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay in 2002. The actor once revealed that he aimed to become a superstar like Rajesh Khanna.
Remembering an incident, Ronit said to Lehren, “My first superstar experience was with Rajesh Khanna, sir.” He added, “I quietly stood behind a mirror, witnessing the incident unfold with a large crowd blocking the road, preventing entry. It was then I decided I wanted to become a hero and attain success like Rajesh Khanna.
” After he failed to make it in the film industry, Ronit started to focus in the TV industry and became a name with shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Adaalat, and more. Despite achieving fame in television, he encountered a period when he had no work and got frustrated. During a conversation with Podcast Redcarpet, he shared, “There was a time when my debut film was a silver jubilee, and after that I didn’t get any work.
I have no idea why. I got frustrated. I got no work.
I got so scared. I had rent to pay, I had to feed myself. What would you do with no money? So I kind of signed the wrong films, and they flopped.
Then I went back to square one and had no work.” The actor further explained, “My alcoholism started out of that frustration. After that, everything went south.
My life went into the gutter. Somehow the alcohol would come. I would wake up at 3 o'clock and then have a hangover.
It just made things worse. I was written off by the industry. They said he is finished.
