MEDINA, Ohio – Just as they did before the pandemic, the Medina Board of Education will gather with members of Medina Council for a joint meeting to discuss community issues and services. Superintendent Aaron Sable said back in August that the two bodies were looking to reinstate these annual meetings, which were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The city reached out to us and I think it is important we continue this initiative,” Sable said.
“We really are one with the community in terms of supporting each other through services we offer together.” Sable said the joint meeting will take place Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.

“What we will do is have our joint meeting with city council and then following that joint meeting, we will take a recess and then hold our regular board meeting,” Sable said, adding that Oct. 16 would serve as the board’s October meeting and the prescheduled meeting for October would be canceled. Board of Education member Amy Smoyer said she appreciates collaborations with the community and added that she attends Partnership Council meetings which include members of the school district, the mayor, members of the parks and recreation department and the police chief.
“We learn a lot about what is going on in the community,” she said. “The district’s PTO presidents also attend. I used to be a PTO president and I found these meetings are very helpful to learn what is going on in our schools and our community.
