Students from the Annabel Murcott Schools of Tae Kwon Do are on an outstanding run of success. They have brought home more than 35 medals, including 14 golds, from the opening three months of the season. The campaign started off in style when around 70 students took part in the first competition of the year at Kettering.
This was followed by the English Championships at the Worcester Arena where the excellent results continued at an event which attracted more than 700 competitors from across the United Kingdom. Students of all ages from five years to adults entered into several disciplines which included sparring, patterns and destruction where they had to break boards to show the power in their technique, using either hands or feet. Baiba Campbell and Oscar Bell led the medal spree for Murcott's schools which are mainly based in Stamford, Bourne, Billingborough and the Deepings as well as Peterborough.
Campbell claimed five gold medals, a silver and two bronze while Bell bagged a hat-trick of golds plus a silver and bronze. Murcott, who is an eighth dan world master and herself a multi-world champion, was thrilled with the achievements of all of her students. She said: "I was so proud of all the students.
"They train really hard and this is showing in the results we are getting. "Not all the students like the competition side of Tae Kwon Do but some still attend the competitions to show their support and I think that's just as important as we all work as a team. "We have the Welsh Championships in Cardiff in May and one more national competition then all the focus will be on the World Championships in Scotland in July where there will be more than 35 countries attending from as far away as Australia, Russia, Canada, America and Argentina.
"To take a medal at these massive events, especially for the juniors, is just amazing and is something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives." Success at the English Championships also saw Amira Thiara Mahmood, Emily Molsher, Harrison Shreeve and Jack Carruthers strike gold. Yoko Garg also grabbed a gold medal along with two silver and three bronze while Kaitlyn Cyriac claimed a gold and silver medal.
Grace Swindell secured four silver medals while James Frost finished with two silvers. There were also silver medals for Archie Pattinson and Caitlin Smith while Finlay Barltrop and Nikita Rudd each took a bronze. There are still a few spaces left in Murcott's classes which come with a month's free trial.
