MCMC takes proactive efforts to deal with floods

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) says they are proactively dealing with communication issues during the floods currently hitting some states. “Among (the works are) to coordinate recovery works concerning communication infrastructure to ensure residents can keep in touch during natural disasters,” the MCMC said on Saturday (Nov 30). At the same time, they said the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADIs), which were unaffected by the floods, can still be used to access the Internet and keep communication channels open.

To further ensure better Internet coverage at the temporary relief centres, MCMC said they would also conduct tests to identify relief centre locations with issues and take subsequent actions. Meanwhile, MCMC said they are also providing early flood warnings to consumers through various means such as text messaging. “This will help the public get the latest information about the floods throughout the country,” MCMC said.



As of 10am on Saturday, 47 NADIs are still affected following the recent floods in seven states. The seven states are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang, Johor, Selangor and Negri Sembilan. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat had described the current flood situation as the worst in the state’s history.
