McDonald’s will offer five free ‘Fun Football’ sessions for children in Bolton this spring. The programme, hosted by McDonald’s at Firwood High School in Harwood, will offer an inclusive, non-competitive, and safe environment. All children are welcome, but these sessions are specialised for deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent children aged five to 11 years old to enjoy football.

It forms part of a national programme rolling out 175,000 hours of free McDonald’s Fun Football across more than 1,600 locations in Britain. McDonald’s Fun Football ambassador Phil Foden said: “When you come to the sessions, it is great to see kids happy and playing the game we all grew up loving.” Since 2018, McDonald’s has run free programmes delivered by FA-qualified coaches in largely lower-socio-economic areas to increase football accessibility, confidence in learning new skills, and making new friends.

The sessions, played on an artificial 4G surface, are tailored to pan-disability, deaf, and visually impaired children, as Fun Football coaches have experience to adapt activities to meet the needs of the group. McDonald’s Fun Football ambassador and Lioness Beth Mead said: “This year is particularly important because the tournament acts as a powerful reminder of the sports’ growth and the importance of providing children with the opportunities to start playing.” Parents can register for free for the five sessions, which will run from 12pm to 1pm on Saturday March 29, Saturday April 5, Saturday April 26, Saturday May 3, and Saturday May 10.
