Times News Network Ludhiana: The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) is going to float tenders for the disposal of 200 tonnes per day (TPD) wet waste by setting up a bio-CNG plant . The tender is being floated for the second time after the previous contractor forfeited the earnest amount of Rs 42 lakh. The firm has been debarred for the future because it has stepped back after the tender was finalised last time.

The contractor, who was finalised for the project, had cited a miscalculation in the amount that he had promised to pay to the civic body over 20 years. The company had claimed that it would dispose of garbage and pay Rs 132 crore to the MC as land lease or royalty. However, officials were sceptical about these claims and had demanded a justification from the firm.

Superintending engineer of MC Sanjay Kanwar confirmed that the necessary steps are being taken for floating tenders again. The amount that has been forfeited has also reached the MC account. He said in the coming days, fresh tenders will be floated for which process has been started.

For this project, the MC has to provide the firm with land, and in return, the company will generate revenue by selling gas produced from the waste. There is a plant to produce around 8,000 cubic meters of gas per day. Recently, the MC has started the bio-remediation of legacy waste at Jainpur as well as Jamalpur dump sites to get rid of mountains of trash.

The officials claimed they are trying to resolve the issue of garbage.
