Mayo grad Gabe Madsen joins 1,000 point club at Utah

The former Spartan became the 42nd player in program history to join the elite 1,000 club.

SALT LAKE CITY — Gabe Madsen hit a personal milestone in the University of Utah men's basketball team's 98-63 win over Central Arkansas on Thursday. With a lay-up early in the second half, the 2020 Mayo High School graduate became the 42nd player in program history to reach the 1,000 point club. Madsen finished with a game-high 25 points, knocking down six 3-pointers in his 89th career game for the Utes.

ADVERTISEMENT The fifth-year senior is averaging 26 points per game in Utah's 2-0 start to the season. Last year, Madsen averaged 13.6 points per game in 37 starts, while setting the single season program 3-point mark with 105 3-pointers made.



That number was also the ninth best all-time in a single season in Pac-12 history. This year, Gabe Madsen is playing with his twin brother Mason, who had 15 points in Thursday night's victory. The two both started their career together at the University of Cincinnati before transferring.
