If you’re a Maxis Postpaid customer and going to travel overseas very soon, take note that you’ll have to pay more for their multi-country unlimited data roaming passes. Another bad news is that their short-term ASEAN Plus passes have been discontinued and those travelling to China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan for several days would have to activate a more expensive pass. This is the second price increase for data roaming from Maxis in just a year.

The previous ASEAN Plus pass which covered Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand & Vietnam has been downgraded to just an ASEAN pass (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) while maintaining the same price of RM39 for 3 days and RM49 for 4 days. If you need to roam in China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan for several days, you’ll have to subscribe to the 7-day APAC Data Pass which costs RM69. The APAC Data Pass covers Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tajikistan and the UAE.

If you’re going to travel the world for over a week, the 15-day multi-country data pass is getting a price increase from RM89 to RM99 (RM10 increase). Meanwhile, the long term 30-day data roam pass has gotten a huge jump from RM119 to RM149 (RM30 increase). However, it appears that Maxis’ worldwide multi-country data pass has expanded its reach with over 100 countries.

Previously, their 15-day and 30-day passes are only supported in over 75 countries worldwide. Take note that the “Unlimited” roaming plans come with 2GB/day Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Once you’ve used 2GB in a day, your speed will be throttled to 1Mbps.

As a comparison, CelcomDigi still maintains its current pricing for its worldwide unlimited data roam pass . Their 14-day pass costs RM98 while the 30-day pass costs RM118. It is also worth highlighting that CelcomDigi has also increased their FUP to 3GB per day for both passes, allowing users to enjoy more high-speed data quota daily while travelling overseas.

Once you’ve hit your daily FUP limit, your speed will be throttled to 1Mbps. On top of that, CelcomDigi is also offering free 15 minutes of voice calls which can be utilised to make outgoing and receiving incoming calls on their unlimited roaming passes..
