Maximum temp drops in Pune after a scorching spell; IMD says cooling trend may persist in coming days

Pune: The city and several parts of Maharashtra witnessed a significant drop in maximum temperatures on Thursday compared to the previous day, as moisture incursion and partial clouding kept the heat in check. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the cooling trend may persist in the coming days. In Pune's Shivajinagar, the maximum temperature fell to 36.

4°C on Thursday from Wednesday's 38.6°CC. A similar drop was observed in Lohegaon, where the temperature fell to 39.



1°C from 41.4°C. Ahmednagar, which had recorded 38.

2°C on Wednesday, saw a slight decrease to 36.9°C. Other areas such as Nashik recorded a sharper decline, from 37.

7°C to 34.2°C. IMD Pune scientist S D Sanap said, "The reason for this drop is moisture incursion and some clouding.

In the coming days, temperatures could stay in a similar range, around 37°C in Pune. There is also a thunderstorm warning for parts of south Madhya Maharashtra from March 29-31." The IMD's regional meteorological centre in Mumbai has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places in the Satara ghats, Sangli, and Solapur in teh coming days.

A national IMD bulletin on Thursday stated that a north-south trough extends from north Madhya Maharashtra to north Kerala across interior Karnataka at lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to scattered light-to-moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) is likely over Madhya Maharashtra and north interior Karnataka on March 29-30, Konkan and Goa on March 29, and Marathwada on March 30.
