Max Verstappen hinted that wedding bells could soon be heard with the Formula 1 champion and partner Kelly Piquet expecting their first child together. The Red Bull racing ace and the Brazilian model are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child together in early 2025 after announcing the pregnancy in December . They have been an item since October 2020 following her separation from former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat .
Piquet, daughter of triple F1 champion Nelson Piquet, already has a daughter, Penelope, from her previous relationship. And she is excited for her second child with Verstappen , who is regularly seen on social media spending time with her daughter 'P'. While many suspect wedding bells might soon ring for the couple, Verstappen remained coy during an interview with Swiss media outlet Blick .
Quizzed on the matter, he simply replied: "Not yet, but it will probably happen soon." Updates have been sparse since the pair shared their joyous news before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, but a holiday Instagram post from Piquet brought a rare insight. She posted a selfie from a skiing trip over the festive season, which led to an exchange in the comments section.
One fan remarked: "Not fair how pretty you are! I'm currently pregnant in my first trimester and looking like I'm dying, and here you are pregnant and glowing and looking absolutely stunning," reports the Express . Piquet chimed in with some heartfelt encouragement and a progress report on her own pregnancy journey, saying: "My first trimester was rough! I'm entering my third now! You got this." This reveals that Verstappen's partner is about 28 weeks along.
Given typical delivery schedules, the couple could be greeting their new arrival in just about three months. Meanwhile, as Verstappen gears up for his championship defence in Melbourne, he's aiming to follow in the footsteps of Michael Schumacher by snatching a fifth consecutive drivers' championship title. However, given that Ferrari and McLaren are seen as the frontrunners going into 2025, Verstappen acknowledges there's plenty to tackle.
"I don't have a crystal ball, but if we can fix certain weaknesses over the winter, we'll be back at the top," he said. "But I'm certainly not making a prediction here. Five teams should be fighting at the top.
" Furthermore, he highlighted technical challenges they've faced, adding: "The weaknesses have been narrowed down. The necessary balance was often lacking because we simply couldn't get into the small temperature window. That means you end up wandering around a bit wildly.
