During a heady time in the club’s history, the first team reached the west area final on six occasions in ten years, winning the overall county-wide competition twice and runners-up on another occasion. The evening proved a huge success with around 100 former players, managers, and committee men arriving at the Carwinion Road pavilion to rekindle old friendships. Throughout the evening, a number of videos were shown detailing many of the club’s memorable occasions down the years and they were supplemented by an array of photos and other memorabilia to remind everyone of the club’s history going back to 1936.
The president, David Rickard, along with Rex Sadler and Des Sadler were from the 1970s double-winning teams, Nigel Wills helped swell the cumulative age of players now in their 80s to over 400 years of experience, and cup winner Kevin Jefferies, who these days lives in Plymouth, travelled down especially for the event. Club chairman, Gregg Renfree, welcomed everyone to the event, especially those who had played for the club over the years to make it what it is today. The oldest player was 85-year-old Clive Sara, still looking as fit as a fiddle, and virtually all of the squad from the cup-winning team were in attendance.
Adding glamour to the occasion was the volunteer female bar staff of Lisa Stevens, Rachel Caunter, and Nikki Pointon, who took over the role to enable their husbands to enjoy the occasion, along with Josie Stevens who had tops especially emblazoned with the wording 2000 Cornwall Junior Cup Winners. Towards the end of the evening, Mr Renfree presented Scott Williams with his long-lost shinpad from which the winning goal was scored against Callington Town and anonymously returned on the night. Scott very generously handed it back to be placed in the club’s trophy cabinet for posterity.
