Maura Higgins has revealed how discovering her ex-boyfriend was cheating led to her joining Love Island. The Co Longford native can currently be found on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here , joining the ITV reality show and forming a hilarious friendship with Reverend Richard Coles last week. Similarly to her Love Island debut back in 2019, where she became a household name, Maura appeared several days into the show, rather than being part of the programme’s opening line-up of talent.
On Sunday night’s episode of I’m A Celeb , Loose Woman panelist and journalist Jane Moore quizzed Maura on what made her want to enter the Love Island villa five years ago. Initially rejecting the opportunity to enter Love Island due to having a boyfriend, Maura made a U-turn that changed the trajectory of her career when she went through his phone. Revealing how she got revenge, Maura said: ‘I had a plan and no word of a lie, when he went to the gym the next day I got his toothbrush and I filmed myself scrubbing in the verges.
‘He had a dentist appointment that day!’ A stunned Danny Jones replied: ‘You don’t wanna mess with Maura!’ Despite having her heart broken, Maura turned out to be one of the most memorable contestants in Love Island’s history , thanks to her witty one-liners and no nonsense approach to her fellow islanders. ‘I went in like a bull in a china shop because I was so angry about that whole thing,’ she said. Those watching at home couldn’t get enough of Maura’s jungle antics, with many taking to X, previously known as Twitter, to commend her once again for her honesty and witty tales.
One person said: ‘I wonder if Maura told her ex about scrubbing the bog with his tooth brush before, or if he just found out.’ Another added: ‘Who does the dirty on Maura?’ While someone commented: ‘No wonder Maura went into love island they way she did makes so much sense now girl you are fierce.’.
