NEWARK, N.J. — Auston Matthews scored with 2:09 left in overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.
Matthews outskated defenseman Brett Pesce, grabbing a loose puck near center ice for a breakaway, and beat goalie Jacob Markstrom on the glove side for his ninth goal of the season. Ondrej Palat gave the Devils a 1-0 lead at 7:16 of the second period, scoring off an assist from Jesper Bratt. Pontus Holmberg scored short-handed for Toronto at 10:42 of the third to tie the game.
AVALANCHE 6, PENGUINS 2: Mikko Rantanen collected his 10th career hat trick and added two assists as Colorado beat host Pittsburgh. Rantanen, playing in his 600th game, flipped in a puck over Tristan Jarry late in the first period, beat Jarry from in close early in the second, and added an empty netter in the third. Michael Bunting and Cody Glass scored for the Penguins. Jarry made 21 saves. FLYERS 5, BLUE JACKETS 3: Travis Konecny scored twice in the second period, and Philadelphia defeated host Columbus to snap a three-game skid and pick up its first win in December.

Elvis Merzlikins stopped 19 shots. HURRICANES 3, SHARKS 2: Jalen Chatfield scored with 2:39 remaining, and Carolina beat visiting San Jose. Luke Kunin scored both goals for the Sharks, and Vitek Vanecek made 25 saves in his first game since being traded by Colorado.
KINGS 3, ISLANDERS 1: Adrian Kempe had a goal and an assist, Darcy Kuemper made 19 saves, and Los Angeles beat host New York for its sixth straight win. Anders Lee scored the lone goal for the Islanders. FLAMES 4, PREDATORS 3: Jonathan Huberdeau and Kevin Rooney each had a goal and an assist, and Calgary rallied for a road victory over Nashville.
Jonathan Marchessault had two goals for the Predators, who tied a franchise record with their eighth straight loss. JETS 8, BRUINS 1: Mark Scheifele had two goals and an assist, Kyle Connor added a goal and two assists, and Winnipeg scored five times in the third period to rout visiting Boston.
