Matthew Stafford’s case for a Hall of Fame bust in Canton has only grown stronger. The 16-year veteran threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday’s 28-22 win over the Patriots, a performance that not only kept the Rams’ Wild Card hopes alive but also saw Stafford pass a few all-time greats in the process. Midway through the third quarter, Stafford found Cooper Kupp for a lengthy 69-yard touchdown strike, the 57th time he’s thrown for three touchdowns or more.
After passing Ben Roethlisberger for eighth on a coveted list, Stafford wasn’t done breaking records though. Stafford’s fourth touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson moved him into 10th all-time in passing touchdowns, passing Eli Manning with 367. ( ̳• · • ̳) / づ♡ I love you, Matthew Stafford pic.
twitter.com/0VPIYl4ckY “This last one right here, 10th all-time in touchdown passes. This guy’s a freak, he balled again and had four today,” coach Sean McVay said in the locker room before handing Stafford the game ball.
How long Stafford plans to play past this season is anyone’s guess. But now only 24 touchdowns shy of Matt Ryan, who sits ninth, there’s every chance the 36-year-old moves further up the list before its all said and done. “Congratulations to Matthew for being Top 10 in all-time touchdown passes, that’s a major accomplishment,” McVay went on to say in his post-game press conference.
“I thought he was in command, unbelievable job. I thought he saw the field really well, recognized the zero and saw Cooper on the 69-yard touchdown. He did a great job today.
” At 5-5, the Rams head back home to host the Eagles next week before a visit to the Superdome to play the Saints in Week 13. With Stafford afforded better protection and kept clean in the pocket on Sunday, the Rams could not only play spoiler down the stretch but also make their presence felt in the playoff push over the coming weeks..
