
is winding back the clock this season. or signup to continue reading The Ovens and Murray goal shooter has departed to join district league club Tallangatta. While the Mathey name is synonymous with the Bulldogs, the 'Bughouse' also feels like home for the 22-year-old.
"My whole family has played out there previously. Dad (Mick) and all my uncles, and my mum (Caroline) also played out there," Mathey said. "Chloe, my older sister, played out there, and I started netball there in midgets.
" Mathey has spent the last eight years at Wodonga, leaving the club on a high note. She was able to share one last special memory with her late pop, Leo. "It was a hard decision, especially with all the family being there," she said.
"But obviously (cousins) are now in Perth. "After winning the last year and having Pop there, it was a hard thing to do, but it was the right time to move." Mathey cherishes her time in the Ovens and Murray League.
"It was a very good learning experience," she said. "I learnt how to play against tough and skilful opponents. "It was a really good opportunity and I enjoyed it a lot.
" She will now face a fresh set of opponents under the leadership of Tallangatta's newly appointed A-grade coach The Hoppers made it to last year's semi-finals under departing coach "I'm really looking forward to the change and being able to play against different girls," Mathey said.
