Shivamogga: The BJP on Saturday demanded that the govt announce Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the new mothers who lost lives due to alleged medical negligence recently. Party president BY Vijayendra, leading a protest in Shivamogga, also called for the resignation of health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and women and child welfare minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar over the crisis. Addressing the demonstration organised by the BJP Women's Wing, Vijayendra urged CM Siddaramaiah to act immediately.
"If the CM has any humanity or respect for his position, he must announce Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased," he said. He also demanded the government adopt the orphaned children. In addition to the compensation demand, Vijayendra announced plans to escalate the issue nationally.
"A letter will be sent to the National Human Rights Commission to ensure accountability and justice for the victims," he said. He also alleged that there has been no progress or developmental work in Karnataka since the Congress came to power.
"Even Congress MLAs have expressed dissatisfaction and complained about the govt's inefficiency. There is lot of infighting happening," he said. In Kalaburagi, opposition leader R Ashoka also declared that Siddaramaiah's tenure as the CM is nearing its end.
