SWIMMING: THE PNG Masters Swimming Association is gaining momentum since its initiation in 2016. Club member Ryan Pini said they have the PNG Masters Swimming Association up and running. And we’ve got a good number of members now.
“So anywhere from the ages of 25 years old all the way to 100 and over. And the age groups go in five years, every five years, we have a good number of swimmers. And really the aim of it is to just be involved in swimming, in aquatics.
Live a healthier lifestyle and have something motivating us to do so. And with that we have the World Masters Championships coming up in Singapore. Which is backing off from the World Championships.
So, we’ll have our youngest swimmers representing Papua New Guinea swimming in July. And then the Masters will move in in August and do our thing. Representing Papua New Guinea and PNG Masters Swimming.
So, looking forward to that event. I think we might have possibly about eight to ten members qualified. And sending a team over that way.
” Pini said the Association has been up and running since 2016, “so the first time we started this up was after the Pacific Games. And we had a good number of older swimmers that were still wanting to participate. And definitely helping out on the pool deck.
And we thought well let’s get a group together and give ourselves some motivation. Myself and we had another swimmer, Ashley Seeto, who went to the World Masters in Budapest in 2017. So, I got two world records under my age group.
Which was really motivating for myself. But since then, we’ve had a few Masters past representatives of Papua New Guinea. Swim at different events.
There’s lots in Australia that happen. And now we’re just trying to make sure we can bring everyone back in. And look to participate at future events.
” Pini added that some of the events they’ve participated in is mostly there’s events in Australia. So, there might be a regional event..
