Mason City Community Theatre is staging a production of Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap." This fan favorite show has been performed the world over and does not fail to delight with it's twists, turns and red herrings. After a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm.

It soon becomes clear the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. The cast of Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" prepare for the show to open on Thursday night. Ray Carver is directing the performance for the second time.

A police detective (Vince Lockwood) Detective Sgt. Trotter, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house — Giles and Molly Ralston (Scot McCluskey and Diane Maxwell); a spinster with a curious background, Miss Caswell (Deb Kuehne); the architect, Christopher Wren (Rick Maxwell) who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major, Major Metcalf (John G. Henry); a strange little man, Mr.

Paravicini (George Mortimer) who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist, Mrs. Boyle (Ashley White) who makes life miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate.

Ray Carver directs the all-local cast in his second run at directing "The Mousetrap." "I did it 42 years ago in Des Moines, and that just kind of happened by accident. afriend called up and said 'I can't do it, I'm going to New York," Carver said.

"I didn't plan on directing this one, either, but I'm lucky." The cast is made up of a mix of stage veterans and new faces to MCCT. Terry Van Essen is stage manager and the only member of the cast and crew to have seen "The Mousetrap" live on stage in London.

"No matter how many times we run through it, I still love the show. It's so much fun," Van Essen said. MCCT is celebrating it's 60th Anniversary season and has four shows scheduled: "The Mousetrap" by Agatha Christie; "A Doublewide, TX Christmas" by Jones Hope Wooten; "Love, Sex and the IRS" by Billy Van Zandt; and "Jane Milmore and The Good Doctor" by Neil Simon.
