Maso Awards Chief Executive Officer Augustine Mukisi said that they were pleased with the constructive criticism they have received from observers ahead of the grand finale at Comesa Hall in Blantyre. The finale will be on December 28 2024. Mukisi said they would keep learning and listening as part of improving the awards.

“For us, the benchmark is to remain truthful in our affairs and be transparent in all the processes. We are thankful for all the criticism we have received since we released the nominees’ list,” Mukisi said. He said they would continue to make proper consultations to execute the best during the awards.

“We started online and have made strides to go physical, with our first show at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre before moving to other bigger venues such as Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre and Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe last year. This is testimony that we are going in the right direction,” Mukisi said. He then called upon people to vote for their favourite nominees, having opened voting recently.

Voting will close on December 20 2024. “We urge people to vote for their favourite nominees in different categories. We do not want people to complain at the end,” Mukisi said.

There are 43 categories in total, with five awards set to go through voting but people are nominated by the public and other stakeholders. The five awards are Lifetime Achievement, which has Boniface Ndamera of Lucky Stars Band, famed for the track ‘Chinafuna Mbale’; Humanitarian Award, where there is Temwa Chilenga; Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year (Social Impact), which has Maya Nkoloma. The others are Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year (Advanced Green Energy Solutions) Schizzo Thomson and Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year (ICT Trailblazer) Wisely Phiri.
