Mary McCarthy: Why I totally agree with Amazon chief Andy Jassy – working from home simply isn’t working

Amazon staff have been ordered to come back to the office five days a week from January 2. The company has been branded a dinosaur by no less a figure than Cary Cooper, the psychologist who coined the term “presenteeism”. He claims the move will hit the company’s performance and employee well-being. Amazon’s chief executive Andy Jassy disagrees – and so do I.

He claims the move will hit the company’s performance and employee well-being. Amazon’s chief executive Andy Jassy disagrees – and so do I. Jassy said in a memo that, after a trial of working three days in the office, Amazon management had now deemed that a full-time return would be better for co-ordination and culture-building.
