Mary H. Moore Cary Mary Hunter Moore, 94, was called home peacefully in the early evening of August 22nd. Her last days were filled with visits from family, friends and staff members of Waltonwood Senior Living Community.

Mary was born January 16, 1930 in WinstonSalem to Elbert and Esther Hunter. She graduated from Mineral Springs High School and Mars Hill College. She married her high school sweetheart Ray Moore in 1950 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together until Ray's death in 2014.

Together they raised four children and lived exemplary Christian lives, always having church and family as the cornerstones. Music was an important part of Mary's life and she was a talented pianist having been the pianist/organist for Eastway Baptist Church in Charlotte, singing in choirs and helping with children's choirs in each church she attended. The house was often filled with music and she would play "You are my Sunshine" to lift spirits and "Love One Another" to defuse arguments.

She was a classic mother to her four children, always having meals ready, memorable birthday cakes baked, clothes made, sewed and repaired and everyone delivered on time to their many events. She also found time to be a member of The Cary Garden Club, The Newcomers Club and The Womens Club of Cary. She was a loving wife to her husband supporting him in his work and accompanying him to conventions and other travel.

In later years Mary became the travel planner and she and Ray took many excursions both in the States and in Europe.Mary began her "working outside the home" career as secretary in the Soil Science Department at NCSU, typing reports. She moved on to secretarial work and assisting nurses with filling out reports in the Wake County Health Department.

She volunteered with Mental Health of Wake County that met in the basement of First Baptist Church in Cary. Her most interesting and joyous work and volunteer experiences were with Dorcas Ministries and the North Carolina Legislature. She began her volunteering with Dorcas in the 60's, teaching preschool children songs and activities in the preschool program, continuing to be a loyal volunteer over the years helping with books and children's clothes.

She loved her Tuesday morning volunteer time and made many memories and friends. Mary's time with the NC Legislature was both rewarding and educational. She became a clerk for various House Representatives, also working briefly in the Speakers office.

She took great pride in learning the details of how bills become laws and thoroughly enjoyed her work. Ray and Mary moved to Waltonwood in 2011 shortly after it opened and "Miss Mary" was forever known and loved there by everyone for her constant smile, sweet personality and her red walking stick. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ray; and son Wayne.

She is survived by her children Susan (Glenn) Blackley, David (Sara) Moore and Cynthia Parrish; grandchildren Jarad, Jonathan, Hunter, Sallie, Adam, Emily, Mary Hope and Samuel; and greatgrandchildren, Jaden, Bishop and Elijah. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Banner and Rebecca Hunter. The family would like to thank the staff of Waltonwood for their kindness and the personnel of Heartland for their loving care in Mary's last days.

Special thanks and love go to Tameka C. for always going above and beyond in her loving care and becoming a part of the family and for Mary F. who provided such love and companionship.
