Birth: 1944 Death: 2024 Mary Ann Crozier Hobbs passed away peacefully in her beloved Santa Cruz home on November 4th, 2024. She was born in Cook County Illinois on June 17th, 1944 to William and Dorothy Crozier. The family moved to San Rafael, CA where she attended local schools, graduating from San Rafael High School in 1962.

Mary Ann continued her education, receiving her Associate of Arts degree from the College of Marin in 1964, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University at Chico in 1967. It was there that she met her future husband Russ Hobbs. He entered the US Army officer corps after college and was deployed to Korea.

Russ and Mary Ann were married at the US Embassy in Seoul in 1967 and recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. After his tour of duty in 1969, they settled into their lovely home in Sunnyvale. Mary Ann worked as an activity director in a nursing home for a time and Macy’s provided her enjoyable employment for many years.

Russ logged 40 years building a successful business with Allstate insurance. In 1973 they welcomed the birth of their son Kevin. Their lives were full with work, family and school activities and church.

They traveled extensively in the US and Canada in their motor home enjoying the camaraderie of their long-standing camping group. And internationally on many Allstate business trips. Russ retired in 2006 beginning a new chapter in their lives as he was asked to serve as Rotary District Governor.

They moved to Santa Cruz and renovated (to Mary Ann’s specifications) a lovely old home that had been in the Hobbs family since it was constructed in the 1920s. Mary Ann distinguished herself in numerous volunteer projects including the UCSC Arboretum, Salvation Army, Santa Cruz Symphony and the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Her artful creations have graced many gala events and raised large sums donated to worthy causes.

She will long be remembered for her energy, vision and willingness to serve. Mary Ann is survived by her husband Russ Hobbs, son Kevin and his wife Barbara, and her sister Bonnie Sobel and her husband Brian. A memorial service will be held in her honor on November the 23rd at 1 pm at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 420 Melrose Ave.
