Maruti Suzuki leads Dec' 2024 SUV and car sales. The Indian passenger vehicle market wrapped up 2024 on a high note, achieving record-breaking wholesales of 43 lakh units for the year. With rural markets and SUVs contributing significantly, carmakers posted impressive numbers in December.

Here’s how the top players fared in December, with Maruti Suzuki leading the charge. Maruti Suzuki India Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, solidified its dominance by selling 1,30,117 passenger vehicles in December 2024. This marks a robust 24% growth compared to the 1,04,778 units sold in December 2023.



The company achieved notable growth across all its segments, including mini, compact, utility vehicles, and vans, while the mid-size sedan segment showed a slight decline. Hyundai Motor India Hyundai recorded its highest-ever yearly domestic sales in 2024, totaling 6,05,433 units, with December contributing 42,208 units in domestic sales. 4% decline compared to December 2023, Hyundai’s consistent performance, combined with exports, reached a total of 7,64,119 units for the year. Tata Motors Tata Motors reported steady growth in December 2024, selling 44,230 passenger vehicles domestically, a 1.12% increase compared to December 2023.

Electric vehicles played a key role, with 5,562 units sold, reflecting an 11.11% growth in the segment. Total PV sales, including exports, stood at 44,289 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra Mahindra showcased strong performance in its SUV lineup, achieving 41,424 domestic sales in December 2024. This represents an 18% year-on-year growth, up from 35,171 units sold in December 2023, as SUVs remained a dominant choice for Indian buyers. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Toyota closed December 2024 with 29,529 units sold, a substantial 29% increase compared to December 2023.

For the full year, the company reported its best-ever annual sales of 3,26,329 units, up 40% from 2023. In December, the Sonet led Kia’s sales, contributing 1,02,337 units for the year. The Carnival MPV also made its mark with 563 units sold in just two months. Honda Cars India Honda reported a stellar annual growth of 20%, selling 1,31,871 units in 2024 compared to 1,10,143 in 2023.

However, December 2024 saw a dip, with 9,460 units sold, a 18.81% decline from December 2023. Despite this, steady demand and increased exports bolstered Honda’s overall performance.

MG Motor India MG recorded impressive growth in December 2024, selling 7,516 units, a 55% increase compared to the same period last year. The newly launched Windsor EV played a key role, becoming the highest-selling passenger electric vehicle with over 10,000 units sold in just three months.
