Homegrown auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India, on April 2, revealed that it will increase prices for several of its car models starting April 8, 2025. The decision stems from higher costs for materials and operations, which have made it challenging for the company to keep prices steady. In a regulatory filing, Maruti Suzuki said that a price adjustment is now unavoidable to maintain its business and product standards despite efforts to manage these expenses through internal savings and efficiency improvements.

Interestingly, this will be the third time India’s largest carmaker has raised prices this year, after hikes in January and February. The price increases will vary by model. The Grand Vitara, a popular SUV, will see its ex-showroom price rise by up to ₹62,000.

The Eeco, often used as a utility van, will go up by as much as ₹22,500. The Wagon-R, a compact hatchback, will increase by up to ₹14,000. Both the Ertiga, a multi-purpose vehicle, and the XL6, a premium MPV, will each see a hike of up to ₹12,500.

The Dzire Tour S, a sedan aimed at fleet buyers like taxi services, will rise by up to ₹3,000, while the Fronx, a newer compact crossover, will increase by up to ₹2,500. These ex-showroom price changes could also push up the final on-road costs for buyers, as insurance, road tax, and other fees may adjust accordingly. In terms of sales, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,92,984 vehicles in March 2025, a 3.

09% improvement over the 1,87,196 units sold in March 2024. This growth was driven by a significant boost in exports, which jumped 27.33% to 32,968 units from the previous year.

However, domestic sales faced challenges. Sales of passenger vehicles, such as cars and SUVs, dropped 1.29% to 1,50,743 units, while light commercial vehicles, like small delivery vans, fell sharply by 33.

8% to 2,391 units. Overall domestic sales, which include passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and units sold to other manufacturers (OEM), decreased slightly by 0.8% to 1,60,016 units.

Looking at the full financial year from April 2024 to March 2025, Maruti Suzuki’s total sales reached 22,34,266 units, up 4.63% from 21,35,323 units in the prior year. Domestic sales for the year, covering passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and OEM supplies, grew by 2.

67% to 19,01,681 units. Exports performed strongly, climbing 17.49% to 3,32,585 units, showing the company’s expanding reach in international markets.
