As the winter chill begins to bite, thrifty Brits are on the quest for innovative yet economical ways to stay warm. Thanks to a tip endorsed by consumer champion Martin Lewis, TikTok sensation Sam Calver has highlighted a nifty trick that could slash heating costs significantly. In his viral clip, Sam expresses his astonishment upon discovering the 'radiator foil hack'.

He divulges: "I can't believe I've only just found out about this central heating trick. All I seem to be doing is turning the heating up all the time, but I saw Martin Lewis talking about the radiator foil hack, and I had to give it a go." He goes on to explain: "I grabbed myself some radiator savers – actually really cheap and you get about five metres of it.

You just cut it to size, slide it down the back of your radiator, and it now reflects the heat from your radiator back into the room rather than seeping through your walls. It means you can have your heating on less and save a lot of money over time." Sam's revelation has struck a chord, garnering heaps of likes and prompting fellow users to share their own experiences.

I honestly know how the Xmas turkey feels sitting in its tin foil all day. Very warm, but very dark.

", reports the Manchester Evening News . One satisfied user revealed: "It works well. Done it since the 80s.

Also, put thick aluminium foil on the ceiling. The room becomes even warmer as you don't lose heat to the flat upstairs." Adding to the chorus of approval, another remarked: "People have been doing this for donkeys years.

" The money-saving suggestion was spotlighted by Martin Lewis in 2022 on his show - the Martin Lewis Money Show Live. He shared insights that affixing foil behind radiators could improve heat reflection back into a space. Whilst there is specially designed radiator foil available for purchase, it seems that regular kitchen foil serves as an inexpensive and equally efficient alternative.

Yet, some remain unconvinced about just how effective this hack might be. Nonetheless, a variety of digital content creators have backed the effectiveness of the trick. Additionally, Martin Lewis has brought attention to other household heating tips, such as applying cling film to single-glazed windows, thereby trapping air for insulation and reducing heat escape.

These efforts can also yield benefits in dampness reduction on window surfaces, tackling the pervasive issue of condensation where warm indoor air meets cold glass.
