Households who are struggling to pay their energy bills have been urged to ask their suppliers for help. Customers on low incomes may be able to get discounts from their energy companies. Consumer expert Martin Lewis insisted it was "always worth asking" as it was possible companies would reduce bills for those struggling to make ends meet.
Martin shared one example on social media of an Octopus Energy customer who was able to cut costs. The Money Saving Expert presenter praised Octopus for helping the customer and suggested others should check what was available if they were worried about bills.
